Preston playing the piano. Preston and Barbara Krall singing "The Prayer."
Barbara considers any day that she can sing a great day!  A trained classical musician (piano, classical saxophone, and most recently voice), she has always enjoyed listening to good music of almost every style (ummm, no rap or heavy metal rock!).  Like Preston, she has had a career in Information Technology (computer software training and support), and has studied digital audio and multimedia at the Music Technology program at IUPUI.  With Preston's encouragement, she is now exploring performing more contemporary vocal styles.  More a choral singer than a vocal soloist, she has sung with the Indianapolis Arts Chorale (www.artschorale.org) since 1991.

Preston is available for both piano playing and singing engagements.

Please email Preston if you would like to have him play at your event or if you have any questions.
Preston also sings national anthems at sporting events. He sang "Oh, Canada" and "The Star Spangled Banner" at the Indianapolis Indians game on April 11, 2005.

Preston Tuchman started playing piano by ear in 1950 when he was 3 years old. His mother was taking piano  lessons at the time. In Preston's mind, her piano lessons seemed pretty simple to play and he began playing  his mother's piano lessons by ear. When his mother noticed that Preston was playing her lessons,  correctly, she concluded that Preston had some very unusual musical talents.

Two years later, Preston's parents found a woman that only taught piano to musical prodigies and  Preston began taking lessons from her. Preston was 5 years old, and his piano teacher, Leah  Marks, was 69. Preston wanted to play pop music and Mrs. Marks wanted him to play classical. This  battle went on for about 5 years and both parties agreed to go their separate ways. Preston never  learned the classical music his teacher so much wanted him to play. All through Preston's musical  experiences he learned many different styles of music by listening to recordings he heard from  records and the radio. He incorporated these styles into his own compositions and arrangements.  Some 50 years later, he did a 180 degree turn and started playing and composing classical music. He plays  anything from Bach to Rock. When people ask Preston if he reads music he answers them by saying  that most music doesn't offer the sophisticated chords and arrangements that Preston is able to create. This is not necessarily true of classical and other types of traditional music. Preston finds it more of a challenge to listen to the music and learn it by ear.

Preston purchased some Yamaha synthesizers in 1984 and learned how to hook them up to his Commodore 64 computer. He also wrote the first public domain data file transfer program so he could store his sound patches in disk files that could be shared with other folks using Yamaha  synthesizers. This became known, world-wide, as the MIDIEX (MIDI Exchange) protocol. Commercial software that did the same thing was priced between $300-$400. You can imagine the excitement of thousands of Yamaha synthesizer owners when they found about this FREE software that could be downloaded from Compuserve, Playnet, and Q-Link. Yep..... those were the good 'ole days.

The following music samples are just a few of Preston's compositions and arrangements. Whether  the arrangements are just piano or fully orchestrated, he is playing all of the music on his  synthesizers unless otherwise noted. He sang all of the male vocals.

Please feel free to click on Preston Tuchman's music samples and enjoy his performances. Some of these  are still in rough format and he only shares this page with those persons who express an interest in his music.

The pictures, above, were taken at an assisted living facility, Forum At The Crossing, on the north side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Preston plays at several of these facilities through out the year.

When he is not doing music, he is busy building and selling computer systems, installing networks, consulting, repairing, and upgrading computers. He also does data recovery, network management, and many other tasks related to computers. You will also find him on the ham bands (amateur radio) either local or global, using IRLP and ECHOLink voice over IP (VOIP)technology. If your computer isn't acting right, he is definitely the guy to talk to.
